Recently I was asked what my favorite font was. It didn’t take long for me to respond with Didot. Until Typography class in college at the Art Institute, my favorite font was undecided. Once we studied the anatomy of letters, I began to appreciate fonts for different reasons other than “looking pretty.” Each had a feeling, a meaning, a mood. There are some great websites for fonts on the internet, some credible, some not. A well known, free website is dafont.com. You can’t trust every font you find to be a good one, yet it can be fun looking through the pages. A site that I love spending time on to look at fonts is veer.com. Not only do they have fonts, they showcase designer portfolios, computer wallpaper, images and even graphic design clothing and home merchandise.
My question to you is how important are fonts to you? Just something pretty or do you recognize when the book you’re buying has a gorgeous cover with the perfect complimentary font? And finally, what about you, what is your favorite font?
