Getting Mobile

Since Apple’s launch of the iPad last April, 14.8 million have been sold. Without including the iPhone and other devices, I think it is safe to say there is a need, or an opportunity to use this knowledge in the design world to tailor our delivery of information to reach a wider audience. Other benefits include faster site loading time and content being easier to access due to formatting for the smaller screen of mobile devices. With others recognizing this need or opportunity, there are several tools available to help complete the mobile design websites.  I have found a great article on Mashable listing out eight of these tools for your use. If you have used any of these, let us know how it turned out. If you haven’t, start designing and get your site mobile!

The Greatest Movie Ever Sold

Yup, an entire documentary that is one gigantic product placement. Genius or pure, un-adulterated evil? I vote genius. Product placement is everywhere. It’s become so much of our lives that we barely notice it anymore. Our TV shows, movies and videogames are just extensions of traditional advertising. Advertisers will buy any space if they think it will yield a good ROI. Is product placement wrong? Nope, it’s smart. There’s an art to it and used correctly can yield those results that clients want, but more often than not, it’s just a waste of money. I’ll be interested to see the different sponsors of this film to see if they’ll get any of their money out of their investment. The documentary even has a title sponsor. Yup, it’s officially, “Pom Wonderful presents The Greatest Movie Ever Sold”.  I don’t see much bang for their buck, it’d be like “the birth of your first born child, sponsored by Hershey’s”. Some things work and somethings don’t. I’ll be checking out this doc to see what works.

You’re on Facebook. Your mom’s on Facebook. Your brother Tweets. Your boss networks on LinkedIn. MySpace…well…is kind of dead space and all the while many people are asking, is social media here to stay or is it a fad? Below is a video from Socialnomics that will help answer that question.
